About Us
Background
As Namibia’s second mobile telecommunication operator, leo™ (formerly Cell One) launched in 2007 in Namibia as the challenger brand. The only other operator had existed in a monopolistic environment for 10 years and had operated, without competition or options.
Second operator
With a second operator entering the market, mobile telecommunication users now have choice and options in terms of pre and post paid packages, specifically designed business and personal products, the use of a state of the art 3G network, a wide selection of handsets and data connectivity almost as a given. With the entering of leo™ into the Namibian market, the price of SIM cards, call and sms rates were forced down from the then N$60 odd for a SIM to the current N$6,99.
The opposition is now seen as the ‘follower” brand as their publically stated marketing strategy has been and continues to copy and emulate whatever leo™ does – whether it is above-the-line, below-the-line, handset prices, promotions etc.
Investment in Namibia
During the past 3 years, leo™ has invested millions of Namibia Dollars in Namibia through:
|
infrastructure development - an entire network had to be built with minimal site-sharing opportunities. |
|
staff employment - leo™ currently employs 151 permanent and 20 temporary staff members at head office and in 11 retail outlets. |
|
staff development and training - leo™ recognises that staff need to be continually trained and assessed and with this in mind staff in particularly technical positions undergo continuous skills development.
leo™ brings affordable mobile connection – leo™ was first to offer unique products and services including per second billing (pay for what you use), SIM cards at N$6,99, free sms promotions during peak seasons, no dropped calls and much more. |
State of the art network
leo™ clients are impressed with the outstanding network, continued coverage roll out, (after 3 years leo™ covers 80% of Namibia, all main towns and spaghetti road network). In Namibia there are approximately 1 500 000 potential mobile telecommunication clients of which approximately 20% are on the leo™ network.
About leo™
In September 2009, Cell One was rebranded to leo™ when Telenor and other shareholding, was bought-out by Telecel Globe.
leo™ very quickly entrenched itself in the Namibian market, further expanding its network coverage and distribution outlets. leo™ has a quality and state of the art mobile network capable of delivering next generation services. The network is equipped with EDGE/3G/ and HSDPA functionalities and currently covers 75% of Namibia.
